A Taste of Community: The Story of Jomar Bon

A Taste of Community: The Story of Jomar Bon

When travelers visit a new place, they often look for beautiful views, popular attractions, and delicious food. However, behind every busy place are local people whose stories make the destination more meaningful. One of them is Jomar Bon, a foodstore owner who built his small business through hard work, opportunity, and determination.

Jomar’s journey as a foodstore owner did not start with a big business. He first worked as a staff member at a food stall called “American Wing House.” He learned how to prepare food, serve customers, and manage the daily activities of a food business. After a year, the owner of the stall went abroad and decided to give Jomar the business and the space. This opportunity became an important turning point in his life because it allowed him to become a business owner himself.

After continuing the business, Jomar eventually moved to a larger space at Calivibes Food Park. He has now been operating his foodstore for about three years. His everyday work includes cooking food, serving customers, and promoting his business online through his business page. These responsibilities may seem simple, but they require time, patience, and effort, especially when many customers are coming in.

Jomar’s foodstore is also closely connected to the place where he works. It is located near the public market, an area where many people regularly pass by. Because of its location, the foodstore is surrounded by a busy community. Employees from nearby establishments have also become some of his customers. This shows how a local business can become part of the daily life of a community. It is not only a place where people buy food but also a place where workers, residents, and visitors can meet and enjoy a meal.

Of course, running a business is not always easy. According to Jomar, one of the hardest parts of his work is dealing with toxic people and negative thinkers. As a business owner, he needs to remain patient and continue doing his responsibilities even when he encounters difficult people. His experience shows that having a business is not only about earning money. It also requires a positive attitude, patience, and the ability to handle different kinds of people.

For travelers, Jomar’s story gives a different way of looking at a destination. When visiting a place, tourists should not only focus on its attractions. They can also learn from the local people, businesses, and everyday experiences found in the community. A simple foodstore can tell a story about hard work, opportunity, and the connection between people and their surroundings.

Jomar also has a simple message for tourists: “Enjoy your visit because Filipinos are very hospitable and always smile. Feel at home.” His message reflects the warm and welcoming nature that many visitors experience in the Philippines. Hospitality is not always shown through grand actions. Sometimes, it can be as simple as serving food with a smile, welcoming customers, and making visitors feel comfortable.

Jomar Bon’s story reminds travelers that every destination has people working behind the scenes to make the community lively and welcoming. His journey from being a food stall staff member to becoming a foodstore owner shows that opportunities can lead to new beginnings. Through his hard work and determination, his business has become part of the community.

For travelers, the lesson is simple: look beyond the places you visit and take time to know the people who make those places special. Sometimes, the most meaningful travel stories can be found not in famous tourist attractions, but in the everyday lives of local people.
